Self-referrals and Its Causes in Website Traffic

Every wants to know their website traffic and where it is coming from. Google analytics is a free and good tool by google which provides your web traffic. It basically divides website traffic in four categories are as follows direct, organic (unpaid), campaign, or referral.
Referrals is a term which is used for traffic which comes from other sites. With the All Referrals reports in the Acquisition category of reports, you can analyze this type of traffic.

What is self-referrals ?

Sometimes, when you login to your Google analytics, You find a message like this "You have 1 high-priority issue: Self-Referrals." . Now you raise a question in your mind what is self-referrals? If you find your site in Acquisition -> All Referrals reports that is self-referrals. for example if your website is www.askrajnishonline.blogspot.in and you see an entry from your site in All Referrals report. this is self-referrals.


Self-referrals Exclusion :

If your pages are tagged with the analytics.js snippet, then you need to make sure that you have added all of your own domains (including subdomains) to the Referral Exclusion List for your property:

  •     In Analytics, click Admin.
  •     Select the relevant property.
  •     Click Tracking info.
  •     Click Referral Exclusion List.
  •     Click + ADD REFERRAL EXCLUSION.
  •     Enter the domain you want to exclude, then click Create.
